A new dock system will support marine research and education at the Potomac Science Center. It is intended to provide faculty and students with direct water access for conducting research and academic coursework.
Overview
The project consists of the design and construction of a new pier to reach navigable waters within the Occoquan River. A new dock facility will support the mooring of a 40ft research vessel and several smaller vessels. It will include electrical and water services to support research activities and general needs at the dock. The existing floating platform will be repurposed to support small boat and kayak uses.
You are invited to a Town Hall meeting to hear about George Mason University’s Pier at the Potomac Science Center project. George Mason University will be constructing a dock system that will host several research vessels in support of marine research and educational programs. The pier will provide faculty and students with access to the Occoquan River. The town hall meeting will provide information on the design plans for the project, the construction timeline, research and educational uses of the pier, and an opportunity to ask questions.
