    As George Mason University welcomes nearly 6,000 residential students to the Fairfax Campus for move-in and Preamble events from Wednesday, Aug. 19, to Sunday, Aug. 23, the campus community should expect increased traffic and parking delays. Please allow additional travel time to and from campus.

    As part of planned infrastructure work to improve the reliability and long-term performance of the campus cooling system, cooling service capacity to several buildings on the Fairfax Campus will be impacted beginning overnight on Thursday, July 16, at 10 p.m. and continuing until Friday, July 17, at noon.

    Concrete repairs will be completed on sidewalks, curbs, and crosswalks around the Fairfax Campus during the week of July 13–17 from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.

    Due to extreme temperatures and a high heat index across the region, the local energy grid is experiencing significant stress. As a result, George Mason University is asking all Patriots to help reduce energy demand and support grid reliability during the weekend of July 2–5.

  • May 4, 2026

    In the summer of 2026, Arlington County will begin work on the final segment of the Wilson Boulevard Streetscape Improvement project, to widen sidewalks and implement safety improvements near Mason Square. The project will take place on Wilson Boulevard between North Kenmore Street and 10th Street North, and on parts of 10th Street North between North Jackson Street and North Ivy Street.

    Heavy traffic is expected on and around George Mason University’s Fairfax Campus for regional community college and high school graduation ceremonies at EagleBank Arena from May 18 through June 17, 2026.

    George Mason University Spring Commencement will take place on Thursday, May 14, at 9:30 a.m. in EagleBank Arena on the Fairfax Campus. Separate Degree Celebrations will honor school and college graduates from Thursday, May 14, through Saturday, May 16, at the Fairfax Campus.

    With the forecast calling for inclement weather starting on Saturday afternoon, Jan. 24, it is required that all George Mason University resident students with surface parking permits relocate their vehicles into the ungated general permit areas of the Rappahannock (levels 1-3) or Shenandoah Parking Decks (levels 1-4) starting Friday, Jan. 23, at 6 a.m. and before 4 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 24.

    Lot L on George Mason University's Fairfax Campus will be closed starting at 11 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 21, until Friday, Jan. 23, at 2 p.m. due to a large event at EagleBank Arena.
